On Saturday there were a few giants on the field in the Rajasthan Royals versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru match and we are not talking about Virat Kohli or Jos Buttler. We are talking about Reece Topley and Cameron Green of RCB and we are not talking about their performance but their actual height. Englishman Topley at 6’ 7” topped the field on Saturday closely followed by the Australian Green at 6’ 6”.

There may not be too many fans and followers of IPL 2024 who would have seen 6 feet 8-inch-tall Joel Garner coming into bowl to a Sunil Gavaskar, all of 5 feet 5 inches in front of the wicket. For those who have seen the sight on a television close-up would know how fearful a sight that was.

But at the 19th IPL match of 2024 between RCB and RR neither Topley nor Green could strike terror into the hearts of the opposition. Topley used his height to his advantage and had a good spell giving away 27 runs for 2 wickets including that early shock of Jaiswal with the second ball of the innings when the score stood at 0 for RR. Tall man Green did not do well on the green giving away 27 runs in 3.1 overs, the last ball being hit for a six by Jos Buttler finishing his century, and the hopes of RCB, in style.

As far as height goes RCB had two other players on the field in the six feet club - Glen Maxwell 6’ 0” and Yash Dayal 6’ 0”. But even in the matter of height too RR beat RCB convincingly on Saturday. The Rajasthan team had 6 players in the six-footer club against 4 of the RCB. Shubham Dubey 6’ 4”, Avesh Khan 6’ 2”, Nandre Burger 6’ 2”, Riyan Parag 6’ 0”, Ravichandra Ashwin 6’ 2” and Yashasvi Jaiswal 6’ 0”.
