IPL 2025, CSK vs RR Highlights: Rajasthan Royals wrapped up their disappointing IPL 2025 campaign with a convincing six-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in an otherwise inconsequential fixture on Tuesday. The match, played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, saw 14-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi once again steal the spotlight with a composed 57 off just 33 balls.
Suryavanshi, touted as one of the biggest finds of the season, delivered a fearless yet mature innings that helped Royals chase down CSK’s 188-run target with ease. His knock was laced with four sixes and included a 98-run stand with captain Sanju Samson, who scored a steady 41.
Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal set the tone for the chase with a blistering 36, which included an 18-run over off Khaleel Ahmed. Though he was bowled by Anshul Kamboj, Suryavanshi picked up the baton with confidence. Despite a watchful start, he didn’t miss out on any loose deliveries and even took on veterans like Ravindra Jadeja, whom he dispatched for two towering sixes. He brought up his fifty with another six off Noor Ahmad.
Following Samson’s dismissal, Suryavanshi and Riyan Parag (3) also fell in quick succession, raising fears of a possible collapse. But Dhruv Jurel (31*) and Shimron Hetmyer (12*) held their nerve and completed the chase with 10 balls to spare.
The win was only the fourth of the season for the Royals but could help them avoid finishing last in the standings.
Earlier, Ayush Mhatre and Devon Conway opened the batting for Chennai Super Kings in Delhi against the Rajasthan Royals. RR got CSK in a defensive position early as Yudhvir Singh struck twice in the second over with wickets of Devon Conway and Urvil Patel. Just when it looked like it is going to be another disappointing powerplay for the Super Kings this season, R Ashwin and Mhatre took on the counter-attack approach. First, they got 24 runs of Singh's over followed by 11 from Kwena Maphaka's first over.
Mhatre continued his attack until the last ball of the powerplay on which he got dismissed after hitting Tushar Deshpande for three consecutive boundaries. Ashwin tried to continued attack after the powerplay but got dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga. Yudhvir Singh who went for that big over in the powerplay later on redeemed himself with the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja who departed for just one.
After going five down, CSK bounced back with a partnership between Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube. Brevis departed in the 14th over going for a big one, missing the line of the ball completely.
It looked like MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube will get CSK to a high-flying total but Akash Madhwal and Tushar Deshpande displayed some brilliant bowling skills in the death overs to restrict CSK to 187.
Earlier, RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday (May 20).
