What was expected of each captain before the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League began, and where their teams stand on the IPL 2024 Points Table as of April 26, with exactly a month to go till the IPL final:

1. Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals)

Rajasthan Royals are the only IPL franchise to have retained the same captain since 2021. Not even Chennai Super Kings – who had appointed Ravindra Jadeja for 2022 – can claim that.

Arguably the most low-key of the ten captains, Sanju Samson is befittingly in charge of the side that was once hailed as the Moneyball side of the IPL for their low-investment, high-output approach. He has lost more matches than won as captain, but he also led Rajasthan to the final: Shane Warne is the only other Royals captain to have done that.
