Star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is set to be sidelined from the forthcoming ODI series against Australia Down Under due to an injury. Pandya sat out for a majority of India's Super Four match against Sri Lanka, and was not fit to take part in the finals against Pakistan on Sunday.
As reported by Dainik Jagran, Pandya is dealing with a left quadriceps injury and has been adviced at least four weeks of recuperation. This may see Pandya miss both - the three-match ODI series and the five-match T20I series - against Australia, starting from October 19.
Pandya was India's frontline pacer during the Asia Cup, bowling overs both in the powerplay and at the death. But he left the field after bowling just one over against Sri Lanka.
Ravi Shastri, the former India head coach, had first alluded to Pandya's quadriceps issue during commentary. The Hindi Daily mentioned that the BCCI medical team's report is being awaited in order to ascertain the exact duration of Pandya's absence.
Pandya is also probably going to miss the opportunity to play alongside Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as the senior pros are anticipated to make a return in Indian colours for the ODIs. If Pandya manages to get back to full fitness in time, he might play a couple T20Is.
Rinku Singh took Pandya's spot in India's starting lineup for the Asia Cup 2025 final match against Pakistan. Rinku, who had not participated in any of the tournament's games, faced the final ball and scored the winning runs.
