After a 3-0 series win in T20I, Team India is set to play Sri Lanka for a three-match ODI series starting August 2. Rohit Sharma will be back to lead the team in ODIs while Virat Kohli will also feature in the team.
Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the schedule for the Indian Cricket Team’s tour of Sri Lanka, starting with T20Is on July 26, 27, and 29 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. This will be followed by a three-match ODI series on August 2, 4, and 7 at Colombo's R Premadasa International Stadium.
The Pallekele International Stadium hosted all the three T20Is, while the R Premadasa International Stadium will host the ODIs. Both teams will debut new head coaches during this tour: former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir for India and legendary all-rounder Sanath Jayasuriya as interim head coach for Sri Lanka.
India-Sri Lanka ODIs
1st ODI: August 2 – R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo
2nd ODI: August 4 – R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo
3rd ODI: August 7 – R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo
Following Rohit Sharma's retirement from T20Is after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Suryakumar Yadav was declared as captain of Team India in T20Is.
This tour marks India's second T20I series after their T20 World Cup victory, where they defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final. A new-look young Indian side led by Shubman Gill and coached by VVS Laxman toured Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series. India emerged victorious 4-1 against Zimbabwe in that series.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, had a disappointing run in the T20 World Cup, failing to reach the Super Eights. They lost to South Africa and Bangladesh in the group stage, secured one win against the Netherlands, and had a match against Nepal washed out due to rain, finishing third in Group D with just three points.
They have lost the T20I series against India 3-0 and are now up against Team India for three-match ODI series.
