The much awaited England versus India five match Test series is underway at the Headingly Cricket Ground in Leeds, with England winning the toss and sending India to bat first. The mood was palpable since early morning as vendors were seen selling Indian flags and jerseys along with England caps and other merchandise outside the stadium.
An hour prior to the start of play, even before the England team bus has arrived, suddenly a cheer from the crowd was heard as the English head coach, Brendon McCullum was seen walking towards the stadium entry gate along with two of his support staff. Soon after, about ten or twelve minutes later, the skipper Ben Stokes did the same — he walked to the stadium and wasn’t with the team bus.
There was certain cheers among the crowd that has gathered to get a glimpse of the players, both England and Indians. On asking from where they were coming from and why not with the team on the bus, the stadium security official said: “They’re coming on their cars. They parked at the parking lot and walked around the stadium."
This was something that reminded of an incident few days earlier at the Oval. In the third ODI match in the series between England and West Indies, the English players were seen coming to the stadium riding Lime bikes. They had to improvise on this unique mode because the team bus was stuck in a heavy traffic in the city.
There was no such traffic issue here in Leeds, however it was seen that the English head coach and the skipper didn’t take the team bus and opted for their personal vehicles to come around twenty minutes prior than the team bus.

The Indian team however, came about twenty minutes later than the England side, few minutes later than expected according to the security staff at the ground. The crowd had already started to build at that time which might have created the delay.
