Updated World Test Championship (WTC) table: India endured a 30-run drubbing in the first of the two-match Test series at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday. The low-scoring contest saw India batters once again crumble to spin, a trend that has been witnessed in the team's red ball matches at home.

The loss did have its own repercussion as India dropped a spot below and now find themselves fourth on the WTC 2025-27 rankings. India have so far engaged in eight Tests in the ongoing cycle and endured defeats on three occasions, with the latest being against the reigning WTC winners.

South Africa, on the other hand, have jumped a couple of spots and are now placed second behind Australia in the rankings. In the three Tests the Proteas have played this cycle, the unit has won twice, while endured loss once.

Meanwhile, things will surely get heated as far as the WTC rankings are concerned. Top-placed Australia, who are yet to endure a lost after completing a whitewash against West Indies in the Caribbean, will next face England in arguably the greatest rivalry in cricket.
