Cricket 2024 began with R Ashwin surpassing Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh's records, and claiming the 500th Test wicket of his career.

  1. WPL 2024: After snatching victory from the jaws of defeat in the season opener against the Delhi Capitals, Harmanpreet Kaur's Mumbai Indians will be keen to maintain the winning streak against Gujarat Giants, led by Beth Mooney.

2. Ravichandran Ashwin (5/51) derailed the English batters with his variations of sliders, carrom ball and classical off-spinners on a wicket where the ball kept low. Erudite bowler Ravichandran Ashwin read the behaviour of the surface and tried to generate extra bounce by adding more power in his release on certain occasions.

3. R Ashwin's five-wicket haul in the fourth Test against England took him to 354 Test wickets claimed in India, breaking Anil Kumble's record (350) for most Test wickets in India. He also beat Harbhajan Singh's record for most wickets by an Indian bowler against a single team at home - R. Ashwin took 91 wickets, versus Harbhajan Singh's 86 against Australia.

4. Dhruv Jurel (39*) continued his golden touch to stitch a 72-run partnership with Shubman Gill (52*) to guide India to series victory in the fourth Test against England in Ranchi

5. Rohit Sharma, on Monday, became the first captain to register a series-win against England in the Bazball era. The term, coined by the media to define England's ultra-aggressive approach in Test cricket under coach Brendon McCullum, whose nickname is Baz, is now under scanner.

6. Rohit Sharma expressed satisfaction with the young and hungry-to-prove-themselves players who got their break during the January-March 2024 India - England five-Test series. He told the media: "Jin logon ko bhookh hai, hum unhi logon ko mauka denge." (We'll only give opportunities to those who're hungry to perform.)
