After days of uncertainty, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the cricket board has ended its partnership with Dream11.
The decision comes after Parliament cleared the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill last week, prohibiting all online real money games.
“BCCI and Dream11 are discontinuing their relationship after the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, was passed. BCCI will ensure not to indulge with any such organisations ahead in future," Saikia was quoted as saying by ANI.
As per a report in The Indian Express, Dream11 representatives had visited the BCCI office in Mumbai, during which it was communicated that the company will no longer be sponsoring the Indian cricket team.
The report mentioned that the cricket body is expected to issue a new tender soon. “(Representatives of) Dream11 visited the BCCI office and informed CEO Hemang Amin that they won’t be able to continue… As a result, they won’t be the team’s sponsors for the Asia Cup. The BCCI will float a new tender soon,” a BCCI official told the Indian Express.
The report added that the decision to pull out while being in the middle of a contract won't invite any penalty, explaining it was as per the clause. As per the clause, if "the sponsor’s core business is affected by a change in law enforced by the Indian government, they ‘won’t be liable to pay anything’ to the cricket board.”
Dream11's association with BCCI as lead sponsor began in July 2023, with the three-year deal of Rs 358 crore. They had then replaced ed-tech firm BYJU’s.
Besides partnering with the BCCI, the company roped in top players like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah as their brand ambassadors in IPL 2025. In addition, the company was also the trophy sponsor in IPL 2020, when they replaced Chinese firm Vivo.
Apart from Indian cricket, Dream11 was also the official fantasy partner of the Caribbean Premier League and the title sponsor of Super Smash. Other foreign partnerships include Australia's Big Bash League and the Women’s Big Bash League.
