The Board of Control for Cricket in India said on Monday that it will lodge a "very strong protest" with the ICC after ugly scenes unfolded in Dubai just moments after India triumphed over Pakistan to clinch its ninth Asia Cup title.

Asian Cricket Council & Pakistani interior minister Mohsin Naqvi walked off with the trophy after learning that the Indian players will not accept it from him during the post-match presentation.

Videos of Naqvi, who also heads the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) hurriedly exiting the field went viral on X.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia defended India's refusal to accept the trophy "from a person who is waging a war against the country."
