The proceedings on Day 2 began with Australia adding nine runs to their overnight total before being all-out for 132. This allowed England a crucial 40-run lead. England were rocked early in the second innings as Zak Crawley registered a pair of ducks in the match. Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope, however, steadied things before England were rocked once again by a complete middle-order collapse. The visitors lost three wickets in the span of two overs, which reduced them to 76/5. A late blitz by Brydon Carse and Gus Atkinson took them to 164/10.
Earlier, England after opting to bat first on Day 1 were folded for 172 in the first essay, with Mitchell Starc running a riot. The Aussie quick registered a seven-wicket haul, following which England quicks responded with an equally strong show. By the time Stumps was called on Day 1, Australia were reduced to 123/9 with Ben Stokes completing a five-wicket haul.
