India’s space ambitions continue to grow as ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan revealed future plans. During a media briefing on Tuesday, he outlined major projects, including Chandrayaan 4, Chandrayaan 5, and India’s first space station module. These announcements mark a bold step forward for India’s space programme.
V. Narayanan confirmed that Chandrayaan 4 and Chandrayaan 5 are actively in development. Chandrayaan 4 will also carry a Venus Orbiter Mission. The first module of the “Bharatiya Antariksh Station” (BAS) is set for launch by 2028. Narayanan stated that the complete space station will be ready by 2035. India aims to land on the moon by 2040. The goal is to match the world’s top space programmes, ANI reported.
How Is ISRO Improving Satellite Launch Capacity?
The space agency plans to nearly triple satellite launches within three years. V. Narayanan said they will improve the Mark III launch vehicle. Payload capacity will increase from 4,000 kg to 5,100 kg without extra costs. A Next Generation Launcher (NGL) has been approved by the Prime Minister. This new launcher will support India’s expanding space ambitions.
The Gaganyaan mission will include an uncrewed flight later this year. The crewed mission is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. Astronauts Shubhanshu Shukla and Prasanth Nair trained extensively in America. Their experience will be crucial for the upcoming human spaceflight. The safety of citizens remains a top priority for ISRO.
What Is the Long-Term Vision for India’s Space Programme?
By 2040, India plans to land safely on the moon. The Prime Minister supports these ambitious goals. Narayanan said this will elevate India’s space status globally. The BAS will symbolise India’s growing presence in space. This marks an important milestone in national space efforts.
India’s space programme is poised to achieve historic milestones. The coming years will be key to fulfilling these missions.
