Early risers in the northeastern United States will see an unusual sight on March 29. As the sun rises, a partial solar eclipse will have already begun. In some regions, the moon's shadow will create an uncommon "double sunrise" effect.

The eclipse will be visible from 13 states, and New England offers the best observation. In Maine at sunrise, the sun will be occulted by as much as 86%. New Hampshire will see 57% obscuration, while Massachusetts will have 55% occultation. Boston will experience a 43% eclipse.
South of that, the eclipse will be less pronounced.
New York City will experience 21% coverage, with Philadelphia and Rochester seeing 11% and 8%, respectively. Washington, D.C. will see only 1.2% obscuration. The best locations to view the eclipse are coastal locations with a clear eastern horizon.
'Double Sunrise' and Other Viewing Areas
A "double sunrise" will occur in northeastern Maine, eastern Quebec, and southwestern New Brunswick. The outline of the moon will make the sun appear to be two gleaming horns when it rises. Some good places to watch include Quoddy Head State Park in Maine, St. Andrews in New Brunswick, and Forestville in Quebec.
Moncton and Halifax, Canada, will receive an 82% to 84% eclipse, while Quebec City will be covered by 72%. Montreal and Ottawa will experience 46% and 29%, respectively, while Toronto will miss out completely. The maximum eclipse will take place in the vicinity of Akulivik, Quebec, and will block 91% of the sun.

Outside North America, a 67% eclipse will be visible in Reykjavik, Iceland. Within Europe, the spectacle will be less spectacular, with 31% obscuration for London, 24% for Paris, and 15% for Berlin. Approximately between 15% and 18% will be covered in Morocco.
Next Solar Eclipses
The following partial solar eclipse will occur on September 21, 2025, and be seen in New Zealand and Antarctica. Another partial eclipse will be seen by North America on August 12, 2026. On that same day, there will be a total eclipse visible over Spain, Iceland, Greenland, and Russia.
