NASA to preview Europa Clipper mission which aims to explore Jupiter’s icy moon’s underground ocean

NASA will host a press conference on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. EDT at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California. The event will highlight the upcoming Europa Clipper mission, which aims to explore Jupiter’s icy moon, Europa.

The briefing will be open to the media and streamed live on NASA+, the agency’s website, Facebook, X, and YouTube. Media members interested in asking questions by phone should RSVP to Rexana Vizza at rexana.v.vizza@jpl.nasa.gov, no later than two hours before the event.

Members of the press who wish to attend in person must arrange access by 3 p.m. EDT on Thursday, Sept. 12, by contacting Rexana Vizza. Attendees must bring a government-issued photo ID, and non-U.S. citizens need a passport or green card. NASA’s media accreditation policy is available online.

Europa, one of the most intriguing bodies in our solar system, may harbour conditions suitable for life. While the Europa Clipper mission will not seek signs of life, it will investigate the moon’s potential habitability by studying its subsurface ocean.

The Europa Clipper spacecraft, the largest NASA has ever built for a planetary mission, is set to launch on Oct. 10. It will be propelled into space by a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
