In the light of a magnificent sighting by astronomers at NASA, the very first direct image of yet another baby planet was immortalised. This planet is the newly developing WISPIT 2b, forming inside a protoplanetary disc around its star, WISPIT 2. Hundreds of light-years distant, this young planet presents a rare opportunity to study early-stage planetary formation.

The image was produced using the Magellan Telescope in Chile along with the Large Binocular Telescope in Arizona. It reveals WISPIT 2b as a small purple dot enwrapped inside a bright dust ring.

A fainter outer ring beyond this primary one hints at additional material, creating a dynamic and likely complex environment. Observing planets at this early stage allows scientists to witness cosmic dust coalescing into planets, providing a living blueprint for planetary evolution.
