New Shepard Launch Set for 9:30 am EDT
Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket will lift off today. The suborbital launch is scheduled for 9:30 am EDT. The crew will fly past the Kármán line, located 100 kilometres above Earth.
This is the 11th human flight for the New Shepard. The trip will last around 11 minutes before returning safely. The NS-31 mission aims to expand access to space travel.
Sánchez posted on Instagram ahead of the flight. “Hard to believe that tomorrow this incredible work of innovation will be taking us above the Kármán line," she wrote. She also thanked the Blue Origin team for making the mission possible.
Sánchez will be joined by five remarkable women. Pop star Katy Perry is part of the space crew. CBS journalist Gayle King will also be on board.
Others include aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe and activist Amanda Nguyen. Rounding out the crew is film producer Kerianne Flynn. This marks the first all-women flight since 1963.
Blue Origin has flown 52 people into space to date. The firm previously took Jeff Bezos and actor William Shatner. It aims to bring more people into space tourism.
