The night sky may look peaceful, yet surprises often arrive. Astronomers are tracking asteroid 2025 QD8, a space rock passing close to Earth on 3 September.

How big is asteroid 2025 QD8 and how close will it come?
NASA confirmed the asteroid measures about 71 feet wide. It travels at high speed and belongs to the Aten group. The closest approach will be 136,000 miles from Earth. Scientists note that distance is close in space terms.

Experts stress the rock is not considered hazardous. NASA classifies dangerous asteroids as wider than 85 metres. They must also come within 7.4 million kilometres. This object does not meet either threshold of concern.

Why do agencies track even harmless asteroid flybys?
Scientists know orbital shifts could alter an asteroid’s path. For that reason, global space agencies keep constant watch. Routine monitoring assists in evaluating risks and improving planetary defence measures.
