In 2024, Amavasya coincides with Pradosh Kaal (the evening hours) on October 31. As per traditional belief, when Amavasya and Pradosh Kaal align, it is considered a good time for performing Lakshmi Puja. For this reason, some spiritual authorities advocate for celebrating Diwali on October 31, viewing it as a time when light symbolically conquers darkness.

On the other hand, the Vedic tradition emphasises Udaya Tithi—the lunar day active at sunrise—for auspicious events. Since Amavasya remains active at sunrise on November 1, many believe this date holds greater spiritual importance. Amavasya continues until 6:16 PM on November 1, providing an extended window for worship.
