French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen's party National Rally has registered a resounding victory in the first round of th country’s snap parliamentary elections, dealing a big blow to French President Emmanuel Macron.

According to pollsters, Le Pen's far-right party is likely to win about 34% of the votes while Macron's centrist Renaissance party and its allies would clinch about 22 percent to end in third place.

A coalition of left-wing parties, called the New Popular Front, won about 29 percent of the vote.

The two-round election will now be completed with a runoff on July 7 between the leading parties in each constituency.
