The Senate on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved legislation that would avoid a government shutdown.The continuing resolution, approved by 78-20, would keep the government funded until Dec. 11.The House is scheduled to vote on the bill Wednesday afternoon. President Barack Obama must sign it before midnight to avoid a shutdown.House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said Tuesday he would try to avoid another shutdown threat and that he is open to working the Democrats to do so."We have a system in government that you're going to have to compromise. I'm not going to get 100 percent of what I want," said McCarthy, who on Monday announced his candidacy to succeed John Boehner as House speaker.Read: So...
