UK Election Highlights: Labour expected to secure strong victory over Conservative Party
UK Election Highlights: Voting for parliamentary elections in the United Kingdom began Thursday at 7:00 am (local time) as future of Rishi Sunak as Britain’s Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party hangs in the balance. The voters appear eager to witness change after a 14-years long rule by the Conservative government.
The vote, called by Sunak, is being held months earlier than necessary and caught much of his party by surprise.
Approximately 46.5 million Britons are eligible to vote in this crucial election. Voters will pick members of Parliament across 650 constituencies, with 326 seats needed for a majority in the first-past-the-post system.
Sunak, 44, faces significant voter discontent after 14 years of Conservative rule and has trailed behind the Keir Starmer-led Labour Party throughout the six-week campaign. In their final campaign pitches, Sunak warned against giving a "supermajority" to the “tax-raising” Labour, while Starmer downplayed expectations of a landslide victory to prevent low voter turnout.
The 2019 parliamentary elections resulted in a conservative victory under the leadership of Boris Johnson.
An exit poll commissioned by the main U.K. broadcasters will be published as soon as the polls close, giving an indication of the likely result.
Counting will begin immediately but most of the results will only be announced in the early hours of Friday.

UK Election Results Live Updates: Indian community predicts Labour victory, commends Rishi Sunak's performance
The Indian-origin UK residents, in a conversation with ANI, also acknowledged that Rishi Sunak has done a good job as Prime Minister, but the party will lose because of the “mess” created by his predecessors.
Indian-origin UK residents, in a conversation with ANI, expressed strong opinions about the upcoming elections, predicting a significant victory for Labour due to dissatisfaction with the Conservatives' handling of various issues, including the National Health Service. While some acknowledge Rishi Sunak's capabilities, they attribute potential Conservative losses more to past party turmoil than his leadership.
“I think if the current political trends are anything to go about and if they continue till the end of the polling day, I think Labour should come back with a resounding victory,” a UK resident said.
“What is going to happen is that they (Conservatives) are going to lose. There are some reasons for that as well. There has been a mess…they have changed so many prime ministers and the services are in a mess. The National Health Service (NHS) is in a mess and other things are in a mess. So I personally believe that Labour should come back with a victory,” he added.
“He (Rishi Sunak) is a good prime minister. Unfortunately, if the Conservatives lose, which sounds sure, it’s not because of him. It’s because of the mess that the others made. Because he is a very good Prime Minister, he didn’t have enough time as well, because when he came as Prime Minister, there was only a year or something left for the next elections as well. So I would personally love to see him as the Prime Minister,” he told ANI.
“I am definitely sure if Labour came, it would support us. Rishi Sunak is a nice person. But it’s a Labour wave, so Labour will come in. Basically, I support both but definitely Labour is beneficial for us,” said Indian-origin woman Brinda.
“So we’re not going to see Rishi Sunak this time? No, definitely not,” said another UK resident.
