On September 12, Apple didn't only launch its new iPhones, but also opened doors to its new headquarters in Cupertino, California to the public.
The office, called the 'Apple Park', built in the shape of a spaceship has been constructed at an estimated cost of USD 5 million.
Here are some interesting facts about the new Apple office:
> The office is said to be Apple co-founder Steve Job's dream. Before his death in 2011, an ailing Jobs had pitched the idea before the Cupertino City Council.
> The campus, built on an 175-acre land, is partially constructed and will be complete by 2017-end. The main building, designed to house 12,000 employees, is still under construction.
> The office was initially called the 'Spaceship Campus' because of its flying saucer-like design.
> The Steve Jobs Theatre, where the Apple event was held, and the visitor's center housing an Apple store, cafe and rooftop observation center is complete.
> The campus is powered by 100 percent renewable energy and the buildings have solar panels all around the top. The building will be naturally ventilated with building requiring little heating or air conditioning for nine months of the year.
> The campus also has some 7,000 trees. The company has hired an arboriculturist to restore some indigenous plants and for landscape planning.
> According to various reports, the campus will use recycled water.
> Steve Jobs Theater is a 1,000-seater auditorium and is situated on a hill within the campus. Future product launches are expected to be done from this theater.
> The campus also has 100,000-square-foot sprawling fitness center for its employees, a research and development center, underground parking, pond and walking and running path.
> For employees, open spaces have been created to discourage an office-like atmosphere. However, according to media reports, high-level employees and the tech team is not happy with the open floor design due to lack of privacy.
> The campus will have 1,000 bikes on site to travel within the place. Electric golf carts and shuttles will also be available for travelling.
> It wasn't an easy ride for this campus project. In 2013, shareholders of the company had reportedly lashed out at the project calling it 'wildly extravagant'.
