First court test arrives in Trump-US House showdown over probes

US District Judge Amit Mehta in Washington will decide whether Mazars LLP, Trump's long-time accounting firm, must comply with a House Oversight Committee subpoena seeking financial records for Trump and his company.

A federal court on May 14 for the first time heard arguments in an intensifying dispute between the US House of Representatives and President Donald Trump, who is stonewalling multiple probes led by Democratic lawmakers of himself and his businesses.

US District Judge Amit Mehta in Washington will decide whether Mazars LLP, Trump's long-time accounting firm, must comply with a House Oversight Committee subpoena seeking financial records for Trump and his company.

At the outset of the hearing, Mehta said that he would not be issuing a ruling on the matter on Tuesday.

"My decision will be issued promptly, but it will be issued on a timeline that reflects the gravity of the issues presented," he said.
