CAA applicants get Indian citizenship | Ministry of Home Affairs issues 1st citizenship certificates

On May 15, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued the first set of Citizenship Certificates to applicants under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla presented the certificates to the recipients in Delhi. The CAA, implemented months earlier, aims to grant citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants. Under this act, the qualification period for citizenship application has been reduced from 11 to 5 years for these migrants.
