New Zealand's victory over Sri Lanka in the 2023 ODI World Cup league stage match at Bengaluru on Thursday meant that they put themselves in prime position to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament.
The victory also dented Pakistan's chances of making it to the final four stages and heading into their final match on Saturday, need an improbable win, while batting or bowling first, to overhaul New Zealand's net run rate.
Amidst the permutations and combinations, though, some of the Pakistani legends opted to see the humour in the situation with former captain Wasim Akram suggesting a hilarious idea to ensure the 1992 champions qualified for the semifinals.
In a video released on X (formerly Twitter), Fakhar-e-Alam, the anchor of the popular post-match review show "The Pavillion" could be heard saying that Akram had suggested that Pakistan can qualify for the semifinals of the tournament by batting first in Kolkata on Saturday and then lock the England team so that their players were timed out.
"Make whatever score that is possible and then go and lock the dressing room of the England team for 20 minutes so that all their batters get timed out," Alam said in the video.
The video saw many comments from users who praised the show for its sharp analysis of the matches, right through the ODI World Cup.
"This enough to say again why its the best cricket show at least in Asia. I think in the world too. and Pakistani cricket shows have been very open, accepting results with big hearts, criticising own team with fun and openness is something that is not seen much in Indian shows," one user wrote.
"The great show! I have been following up for quite some time now. All great cricketers sparing their pearls of wisdom and never misses out on dash of humor!" another user wrote.
