Wadi Rum, Jordan
This UNESCO World Heritage site, also known as the Valley of the Moon, is an expansive desert landscape with majestic sandstone cliffs and red sand dunes. It offered a dramatic backdrop for scenes showcasing the harsh beauty of the desert planet Arrakis. The surreal rock formations helped craft the ambiance of an alien world.
Budapest, Hungary
The large backlot of Origo Film Studios in Budapest was utilised for shooting several of the movie's action sequences and battles. Studios provide a controlled environment where producers can craft elaborate sets and special effects without dealing with unpredictable weather conditions.
Liwa Oasis, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
The expansiveness of the Liwa Oasis, situated four hours from Dubai on the Saudi border, offered the perfect backdrop for scenes featuring Paul's desert adventures. The Liwa Oasis is well-loved for its tall red sand dunes, some reaching up to 300m high.
Altivole, Treviso, Italy
The modernist tomb conceptualised by Carlo Scarpa, known as the Memoriale Brion, was utilised for the exterior scenes exhibiting the Corrino household. The sleek and geometric design of the tomb fit the movie’s depiction of the Padishah Emperor's palace on the fictional planet Kaitain.
Namibia
A number of desert beach scenes with Chani's character, Alia, were shot in Namibia. The specific locations haven't been disclosed, but Namibia's Namib desert with its distinctive coastal fog landscapes offered a dramatic backdrop for several scenes.
