A luxury cocktail at a Chicago restaurant has taken the Internet by storm this week, not for its taste but for its staggering price tag—a jaw-dropping $13,000 (nearly Rs 11 lakh). Adalina, a swanky eatery on State Street, is now serving what is touted as the most expensive martini in the US.
The cocktail, aptly named the Marrow Martini, is no ordinary drink. Created by Colin Hofer, a Michelin Guide-recognised sommelier of the year in 2022, this bespoke martini is infused with mezcal, heirloom tomato water, and lemon basil olive oil. But that’s not the only reason it costs as much as a car—it also comes with a tennis necklace adorned with 150 diamonds in 14-karat gold, designed by the famed Marrow Fine jewelry house.
The extravagant martini recently found its first buyer—a man looking to surprise his wife, a fan of Marrow Fine. Jillian Sassone, founder of the Gold Coast-based jewelry brand, confirmed the sale. "The client that purchased the martini wanted to do something special and surprise his wife," Sassone said, CBS reported. "They both love Marrow Fine, and the martini was the perfect gift. They were the first to order the martini."
Served under a smoke-filled cloche, the drink is unveiled dramatically to highlight its mezcal base, amplifying its natural smokiness.
Sassone, in a statement, hinted at more couples opting for the luxe martini “for a few very memorable evenings." For now, at least one husband has ditched traditional gift ideas like vacuum cleaners in favour of something far more glamorous—a cocktail with diamonds.
