The Indian ocean region -- from East Africa, Middle East, India, South East Asia right up to Australia -- may have influenced human history in many ways and could well be the most important region in the world especially at a time when we are facing severe global headwinds in the form of hiking geopolitical risks in southeast Asia and rise of radical Islam in the Middle East. There is perhaps an urgent need to revisit the history of this vastly complex and populous region. The Ocean of the Churn by Sanjeev Sanyal has attempted to do just that.
