Rohit Sharma's old tweet on being left out of 2011 World Cup squad is viral: 'big setback'

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian men’s cricket team emerged victorious at the World Cup 2023 semi-finals against New Zealand in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday and beat their rivals by 70 runs in a thrilling victory. The captain scored 47 from 29 deliveries and amidst the euphoria, an old tweet from Sharma, dating back to the 2011 World Cup, resurfaced.

“Really really disappointed of not being the part of the WC squad. I need to move on from here. But honestly it was a big setback. Any views!” Sharma, 36, had tweeted on January 31, 2011. And now, 12 years later, he is leading the team in the tournament.
Comments flooded the old tweet after the win.

One user wrote: “Rohit Sharma you will be lifting the WC trophy after 12 years.”

“Don't worry champ. You'll build the greatest ever ODI team in the next 12 years which will Remain undefeated. You sir, will be the face of the WC 2023,” another chimed in praising the skipper.

Another user wrote tagging the post: “Delighted for Rohit. Nearly 13 years after this sad tweet, he gets to lead his country to a World Cup final. This is what fairytales are made of. And this is why we love sport!”
Back in 2011, Rohit Sharma, then 24, was left out of the World Cup team leaving the batter sidelined. He had a shoulder injury several months ago and he had recovered, but his selection into the squad still didn’t come through. Sharma eventually started opening for India in 2013.

In the post-match presentation on Wednesday, Sharma reflected on the intense clash against New Zealand and was critical saying although the team was calm, they were “a bit sloppy on the field.”
