The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a few marquee signings such as Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra and Shardul Thakur at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction held in Dubai on Tuesday.
Along with the Indian and international names, there was one other player who they want for at the auction and brought for a sum of Rs 8.4 crore was 20-year-old Uttar Pradesh right-hander Sameer Rizvi.
- Rizvi was born on December 6, 2003 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. He made his first class debut against Madhya Pradesh in January 2020 and his List 'A' debut against Delhi in December 2021.
- The right-hander made his T20 debut in October 2022 against Manipur and has amassed 295 runs in 11 matches at an average of 134.70.
- In the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy, Rizvi showed a glimpse of his ability to use the long handle efficiently and smashed 18 sixes in the tournament
- He also showed his power hitting ability during the UP T20 league, where he scored 455 runs in nine matches for the Kanpur Superstars
"One of the IPL scouts actually told me that he was the right handed Suresh Raina. The areas that he hits against spin are similar and many teams might go after him," India left-hander Abhinav Mukund had said about Rizvi to JioCinema.
- Rizvi also shined in the Under-23 tournament, where he made two half-centuries and two centuries. He also hit 37 sixes in the tournament- the most by any batter in the competition.
