It wasn’t a great day for India at the Rio Olympics 2016 as Avtar Singh was defeated in judo while the Indian women’s hockey team also went down 1-6 against Australia.

Also, Jitu Rai and Prakash Nanjappa failed to qualify  for the men’s 50-m pistol event ranking at 12 and 25, respectively.

Speaking to Network18, Rai said he was disappointed with his performance. “I could not perform according to my potential,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sathish Sivalingam came very close to getting India a medal in the 77-kg weightlifting event but stumbled in his last 'lift' to come fourth.  The silver lining, though, was archer Bombayla Devi Laishram defeating Taipei's Shih-Chia Lin easily to go through to the pre quater-finals.
