Welcome to the second edition of The Sunday Standard Best Bankers Award. As you know our awards are different from other banking awards in what we consider the performance of the banker, not of the institution though individuals make an institution. In our case we think these are the individuals who make the banking industry more credible and acceptable for inclusive growth for other priority sectors as well.

So, we are emphasizing more on the individual who build institutions like banks - who were in the red, now in the blue, they introduced innovative technologies, some have made it almost debt free.
Bankers are trying to become the performing assets, they are reducing their NPAs.
This is the sector which is at par with the best in the world. It is in many cases better than the rest unlike the west where banks have needed to be rescued with financial support from the government.
Thanks to the prudence displayed by our bankers not a single bank in India has been hit by the financial downturn. This is true not only of the winner who we will honour today. Please join me in applauding India's best bankers for this singular achievement not letting one of the bank even fail in this country since independence.
