Shock, grief as Cyrus Mistry dies in road accident: 'Big loss to the world of commerce and industry,' says PM Modi

Cyrus Mistry, 54, was the former chairperson of Tata Sons. He was ousted from the group in October 2016, with the group saying its board lost confidence in him.

Cyrus Mistry, the former chairperson of  Tata Sons, died in a road accident in Maharashtra on September 4, causing an outpouring of shock and grief on social media. The accident took place near Palghar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Mistry's death "shocking" and acknowledged him as a "promising business leader who believed in India’s economic prowess". "His passing away is a big loss to the world of commerce and industry. Condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace," the Prime Minister tweeted.

Condoling Cyrus Mistry's death, industrialist Gautam Adani said he was one of the finest gentlemen he had known. "He was one of the best business minds of his generation. It is a tragic loss. He was called away too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with his family," Adani tweeted.
