Congress leader Shashi Tharoor met retired Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik and her husband Satyawart Kadian on a flight to Thiruvananthapuram on Friday and expressed delight at having met the 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medalist.
Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Tharoor wrote that Malik was on her way to deliver a lecture at a university.
"Delighted to find myself next to @sakshimalik and her husband Satyavrat Kadian on my flight to Thiruvananthapuram this morning. She is going to deliver a lecture at the university," Tharoor wrote.
Tharoor wrote that he was happy to see Malik back on her feet after the shenanigans, which made her take retirement from the sport.
"Glad to see she has landed on her feet after the sad setback of her harassment and quitting. All the best for the future," Tharoor wrote.
Malik announced her retirement from professional wrestling after Brij Bhushan Singh's aide Sanjay Singh was selected the head of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), in December.
Tharoor is not the first politician who bumped into a notable sportsperson on flight. A few weeks back, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin met 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic on a flight, while on his way to Spain.
