Indian tennis stalwart Rohan Bopanna recently retired from playing Davis Cup for the country after winning the World Group II tie against Morocco at Lucknow.
Following the victory, the 43-year-old took an Indigo flight to his next destination and in a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the pilot onboard the flight welcomed Bopanna and wished him well for the future. "Today we also have a special guest on board Mr. Rohan Bopanna. As you all know him, he is a legendary tennis player who finished today with a win over Morocco in his Davis Cup and finished his career on a high," the pilot said.
Later, Bopanna replied to the video and thanked the crew for the gesture.
"Thank you to the flight crew for this acknowledgement & flying me from Lucknow," Bopanna wrote.
India defeated Morocco 4-1 in the Davis Cup tie with Bopanna, partnering with Yuki Bhambri, winning the doubles match 6-2, 6-1 against Elliot Benchetrit and Younes Lalami Laaroussi. Following the win, Bopanna walked around the court wrapped in an Indian flag.
The win assured India of a place in the World Group I playoffs, that will be played in February 2024.
