Ahead of 96th Howly Raas Festival in Assam, the celebration commitee has organised a lottery whose first prize is a Range Rover worth Rs 76 lakh. It's followed by a Toyota Fortuner worth Rs 50 lakh, a Scorpio, a Skoda Kuchak, and a Nexon. The lottery tickets are priced at Rs 100 each.
The lottery is part of an annual tradition and the amount collected from the sale of the tickets is used in multiple projects. Ever since the tickets were introduced, there has been a rush to buy them from the gift coupon office in Assam's Howli. The names of the winners will be announced on December 10.
Located in Barpeta District of Assam, Howly witnesses grand celebrations during Raas Mahotsav -- a festival dedicated to the love between Lord Krishna and Radha. It is observed every year in the Hindu month of Kaati at Purnima Thithi as per the Indian traditional calendar. This year Raas will be celebrated from November 24 to December 10.
The lottery has been an added attraction for the festival. Last year, the first prize was an Audi. It was won by North Guwahati's Janardan Boro, an officer in the Assam Police.
In 2022, the lottery committee ended up selling 3.2 lakh tickets. This year, 4 lakh tickets have been arranged.
