Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked his followers after he crossed the 5 million subscriber mark on WhatsApp "Channels", less than one week after joining the new feature.
Writing on his channel on Monday, PM Modi said that he was grateful for the support and looked forward to having more conversations with his followers on his WhatsApp channel, in future. "As we have become a community of more than 50 lakh, I am grateful to all those who have connected with me through my WhatsApp channel! Grateful for the continuous support and engagement from each one of you," PM Modi said in his message.
PM Modi had expressed happiness after joining WhatsApp "Channels", when the feature was first launched.
"Thrilled to join the WhatsApp community! It is yet another step closer in our journey of continued interactions. Let's stay connected here! Here’s a picture from the new Parliament building," PM Modi had said.
The popularity and support for PM Modi has been extended to other social networking platforms as well. He has 48, 91.9 and 73.9 million followers on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, respectively.
WhatsApp "Channels" was launched by Meta earlier this month in a bid to connect the common man with various leaders and celebrities and allow them to join groups of their interest. Channels can be found on a new tab on the app called "Updates".
