Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved 65 percent approval rating among urban Indians and enjoys high popularity in the western zone of the country with an approval rating of 80 percent, according to the latest Ipsos IndiaBus Poll.
Breaking down the numbers, the new wave shows that 7 percent of respondents remained neutral, while 18 percent expressed disapproval and 9 percent remained undecided.
Earlier in December 2022 his approval rating stood at 60 percent, and it increased to 67 percent in February 2023, showing a positive trend in his performance as Prime Minister of India.
The monthly IndiaBus poll also rated Prime Minister Modi’s popularity by region. He scored highest in western India (80 percent), followed by eastern India (73 percent) and northern India (72 percent). However, in southern India, his approval rating was lower at only 31 percent.
Most of the people who approved of Prime Minister Modi lived in cities. In tier 1 cities, 76 percent liked him, in tier 2 cities, 64 percent did and in tier 3 cities, it was 62 percent.
Even in big cities (metros) 58 percent of people approved of him. His approval ratings were nearly the same for both men (64 percent) and women (65 percent).
This trend continued across different age groups with approval ratings of 66 percent for 18-30 year-olds, 64 percent for 31-45 year-olds, and 64 percent for those above 45 years old, according to the Ipsos IndiaBus poll survey.
The poll survey also revealed that Prime Minister Modi’s approval rating was high among various groups, including unemployed people (75 percent), students (69 percent), employed individuals (67 percent), and full-time parents (63 percent), with the exception of the self-employed (47 percent).
“Narendra Modi has achieved an approval rating of 65 percent on how Indians perceive his role as the Prime Minister of India. By and large, across demographics, he has received high approval ratings considering some respondents were undecided or neutral. His disapproval is less than two in ten, while his approval is two in three of those polled,” said Parijat Chakraborty, group service line leader of Ipsos India.
He also said that only the residents of the south zone and the self-employed seemed disgruntled.
