Pete Lau, CEO, OnePlus at the event stated that the company had been working closely with Qualcomm and EE since the past two years. The OnePlus 5G looks exactly the same on the outside but has many internal changes. The company has adopted a stacked PCB design, expanded the cooling area by 50 percent and designed custom 5G antennas for the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G.

OnePlus had teased a 5G variant of a OnePlus prototype device at the Mobile World Conference. The company had only demonstrated the 5G-prototypre but did not reveal any design details or specifications. For a device to be 5G-compatible, it needs to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 and X50 modem. Since the 5G variant is similar in terms of design to the 4G variant of OnePlus 7 Pro, it would have the same spec sheet with a 5G modem.
