The official X (formerly Twitter) handle of the Police Commissionerate Gautam Buddh Nagar posted a photograph of the arrested individual and confirmed the arrest.

A restaurant owner in Greater Noida was arrested after a woman alleged she had received non-vegetarian biryani despite ordering a vegetarian version via a food delivery app during Navratri, a period of religious fasting for many Hindus. The incident drew widespread attention after the complainant, Chhaya Sharma, posted a tearful video online, which quickly went viral across social media platforms including Instagram and X.

In the video, Sharma claimed she had placed an order for vegetarian biryani from a restaurant named Lucknowi Kabab Paratha, located in Amrapali Leisure Valley, Greater Noida, through the food delivery platform Swiggy. However, upon receiving the order and consuming a few bites, she alleged she realised it was non-vegetarian. Meanwhile, Moneycontrol.com could not independently verify the authenticity of her claims.

“I am a pure vegetarian woman, and they have sent me this non-veg biryani during Navaratri,” Sharma said in Hindi in the video. “This is intentional. Whoever did this has done it intentionally. How can they send non-veg when I ordered veg biryani?”

Sharma also claimed that the restaurant had shut down immediately after the order was placed, and no one responded to her calls when she attempted to contact them.

The video rapidly gained traction online, with users expressing outrage over the incident. Some questioned the severity of the response, particularly the arrest of the restaurant owner. “From inspiring startup founders to insulting startup founders. We have come a long way – on the wrong side,” one user wrote. Another commented, “Extremely poor taste on the part of the organisers,” while a third added, “Self-introspection is one thing. Self-ridicule is completely different.”
