A popular food delivery app's delivery executive and the owner of a Chinese restaurant in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh found themselves in hot water this week after a vegetarian family received chilli chicken instead of the chilli paneer they ordered. They delivery executive and the restaurant owner have been charged based on a complaint filed by Rakesh Kumar Shastri, who claims to be associated with the local Lord Balaji Temple.
The mix-up occurred on October 9 when Shastri and his family received the wrong order post which they filed a case.
"I placed an order of dry chilli paneer from a Chinese restaurant in the Alambagh area of Lucknow. But, instead of serving me chilli paneer, the restaurant and the delivery boy Imran served a non-vegetarian dish, which I and my family realized only after consuming it," Shastri stated in his FIR.
The incident quickly gained attention after Shastri said that his religious sentiments were hurt, and his family's health had suffered as a result. His account of the incident was widely shared on social media, leading to a public outcry.
In a minute-long video posted on social media, Shastri accused the restaurant of breaching his trust.
An FIR has been registered against the delivery executive and the restaurant owner under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Chhatrapal Kumar, the station house officer (SHO) at Police Station Ashiyana, Lucknow, confirmed, "An FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and the matter is under investigation."
Several times now people have found unwanted items, including dead animals, in their food – served at restaurants or in their orders – and have raised complaints after which action has been taken by the authorities.
However, it is unclear why the delivery agent was charged in this case where the mix-up appears to be only from the restaurant’s end.
