Where is Kate Middleton? The British royal’s uncharacteristic disappearance from the public eye has sparked a host of conspiracy theories, each one wilder than the last.
Of course, the ‘disappearance’ is not unexplained – in a statement shared on January 17, the Royal Family had announced that the Princess of Wales had undergone a planned abdominal surgery and would return to public duties only after Easter. Despite this, royal fans are not convinced that all is well with Kate Middleton.
“You’re telling me that Kate Middleton—the same woman who posed outside the hospital like a freaking supermodel mere hours after giving birth—suddenly requires months of recovery before showing her face?” one X user succinctly put it.
Thousands of others have taken to social media to share their own theories as to why Kate, 42, has not been seen for two months. In fact, the last time the Princess of Wales was seen in public was December 2023, when she and her husband, Prince William, took their three children to a church service on Christmas.
In the last few days, the conspiracy theories have suddenly exploded online. Take a look:
The theories only gained momentum after author Rachel Hawkins commented on the matter.
“[I have] spent years eyeball deep in Weird Royal Research for the Royals books, and everything that is happening with Kate M is indeed very, very weird. Unprecedented, even,” she wrote in now-deleted tweets, as reported by news.com.au
“We’re at 2 months since anyone has seen her. We’re not even getting milquetost, ‘I appreciate the well wishes,’ statements from her (note that we HAVE gotten solo statements from William under his personal standard. Anything about her has been under the joint PoW banner)” Hawkins wrote.
“I am not trying to be a conspiracy theorist about the situation at all, but it is WILD how much the royal family has shut down press about where Kate Middleton is/why she hasn't been seen,” one X user wrote in a post that has been viewed 1.4 million times.
However, a statement obtained by NBC News, the Kensington Palace on February 27 said “Princess of Wales, who is recovering from abdominal surgery, continues to be doing well.”
Before this, the last update on Kate’s health had come on January 29, when the Palace announced that she had returned home to recover after the surgery.
