As per Freedom House, in a world with wavering democracy and where freedom is under threat, India is categorized as a free country with an overall score of 77 (0=worst, 100=best) and on a scale of 1-7 (1=most free, 7 =least free) political rights scored 2 points, civil liberties got 3 and overall freedom rating of 2.5.

The 2016 index of Economic freedom on the 'The Heritage Foundation' site gave India an economic freedom score of 56.2 (up 1.6 points from 2015) which gives the nation a global ranking of 123 and puts it in the 25th spot in the Asia-Pacific region.
India scored 41 (0=best, 100=worst) on press freedom and was classified as 'partly free' for the denizens of journalism.
