Modi government most hostile towards farmers: Yogendra Yadav

Yadav said that despite Supreme Court's May 13 directive to centre to proactively provide relief to those affected by drought, nothing is being done on the ground for food security.

The Narendra Modi government at the Centre is "perhaps the most hostile" towards farmers, says Yogendra Yadav, Founder of Swaraj Abhiyan, who is undertaking a 'Jal Hal Padyatra' on behalf of the foundation in drought hit areas of Marathwada.Speaking to CNBC-TV18 on the occassion of the government's two year anniversary, Yadav was critical of its response to the deepening agrarian crisis and drought situation in the country."Despite Supreme Court's May 13 directive to the Centre to proactively provide relief to those affected by drought, nothing is being done on the ground for food security," he said.He added that promises are made by the government only on paper, one among them is the Rs 80,000 crore of irrigation budget alotted by the centre.Watch the video for more.
