Banks asked to step-up on supply of Rs 500 notes: MoS Gangwar

Could not allow private banks to accept old notes because they may act as money exchangers, said Santosh Gangwar, Minister of State Finance.

One back lash of the recent demonetisation scheme is that private hospitals are refusing to accept the old currency hence causing panic and disruption among those seeking medical attention.

When CNBC-TV18 caught up with Santosh Gangwar, Minister of State Finance to get his view on this predicament, he said cannot exempt private hospitals because they may act as money exchangers.

He said the truckers issue is under consideration and government is trying to find a solution to that.

He said banks have been asked to step-up on the supply of Rs 500 notes and have been directed to issue cheque books easily and more frequently.
