The cold wave sweeping north India showed no signs of relenting as temperatures settled below normal levels at most places on Monday with Leh town in Jammu and Kashmir registering a record low of minus 21 degrees.
In the national capital, the minimum temperature was recorded at 5 degrees, two notches below normal, while the maximum in the last 24 hours was 14.6 degrees, down seven notches.
Giving school-going children some respite, the MCD has rescheduled school timings to 9 am in Delhi.
In Srinagar, the mercury dipped to minus 5, while Chandigarh recorded 5 degrees and Amritsar dropped to 0 degrees.
Bone chilling winds and a thick blanket of fog continue to envelop most of Punjab and Haryana.
Snowfall continues to cause woes for people along the arterial Jammu-Srinagar national highway. Stranded passengers protested amidst snow and rain, demanding that authorities to airlift them to their destination. The busy highway had been partially opened on Sunday, but a lot of passengers are yet to find their way home.
"We have been stranded here for last 15 days. They (police) say in morning the traffic has been opened on the Jammu and Srinagar Highway. We take the bus in morning and the movement we reach Narota, they (police) say traffic is coming from other side. We have spent all our money on food," Stranded passenger Mohammed Nasir said.
