A prankster’s joke has snowballed into a bizarre and profitable business venture, leaving brides and grooms reeling. Ernesto Reinares Varea, a self-described "wedding destroyer" from Spain, now earns a living sabotaging marriages after offering to object at weddings for a fee.
What began as a satirical online advertisement has quickly transformed Varea into an unlikely professional wedding destroyer. "If you have doubts or don’t want to get married and don’t know how to refuse, don’t worry anymore, I’ll object to your wedding," Varea wrote in his ad.
He promised to stop any wedding in its tracks for €500 (around Rs 47,000). His inbox soon overflowed with requests from brides and grooms desperate for someone to ruin their big day.
"I have weddings scheduled until December," Varea told Newsflash, amazed at how many couples actually wanted his services. What started as a joke has turned into a booming business. The prankster-turned-professional wedding saboteur now gets paid to show up at ceremonies, claiming to be the love of the bride or groom's life, and dramatically halting the proceedings.
For those willing to pay extra, Varea even endures physical confrontations. "Each slap is worth 50 euros," he admitted, as guests occasionally lash out at him in anger. Despite this, his unique service remains in high demand, with bookings lined up until the year’s end.
Varea’s antics, however, pale in comparison to other infamous wedding crashers. In October, Sandra Lynn Henson, a 56-year-old serial wedding crasher from Mississippi, US, was arrested for allegedly stealing gifts from newlyweds moments after they exchanged vows. Earlier this year, a bride’s private elopement in Colorado was disrupted by a family member who claimed to be a stalker.
Varea, while disruptive, operates within the parameters agreed upon by his clients, and ironically, is more welcome than many uninvited guests. His quirky job, born from a joke, has left the world of weddings forever changed—one objection at a time.
