Former Tech Mahindra executive Vice Chairman Vineet Nayyar died at the age of 85 on Thursday and was at the helm of the IT giants during the important buyout of Satyam by Mahindra and oversaw the merger.
Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra reacted to the news of Nayyar's death on Thursday, saying he was most grateful to him for his vision to establish the Mahindra University and it was Nayyar who provoked the Mahindra Group to develop, what would perhaps be "one of the most important legacies of our Group."
"It saddens me to share the news of the passing of Vineet Nayyar this morning. Vineet was a larger than life figure in the Indian Business landscape."
"But I will personally be most grateful to him for his vision in exhorting us to establish Mahindra University, on the campus of the erstwhile Satyam Computer. He provoked us to create what will perhaps be one of the most important legacies of our Group," Mahindra wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.
Mahindra thanked Nayyar for his wisdom, leadership and thanked him for his friendship.
"Thank you Vineet, for your wisdom, your leadership and for committing the crowning part of your career to the Mahindra Group. Above all, thank you for your friendship. You will always live on in our hearts," he wrote.
Born in 1939, Nayyar started his career with the Indian Administrative Service and later held several key positions, including that of a District Magistrate, Haryana Agriculture Secretary and Director, Department Of Economic Affairs in the central government.
