Sony has announced a new update to the PlayStation 5 (PS5) line-up, the PS5 Slim.

While there were rumours floating around for a long time that Sony might be considering a PS5 Pro model like the PS4, that has not turned out to be the case.

Sony is not officially calling the console the PS5 Slim, but in a blog post announcing the new variant, Sony says it has the "same technology features" of the PS5, "packed into a smaller form factor, along with an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive and a 1TB SSD for more internal storage".

The "Digital Edition" as Sony calls it has been reduced in volume by more than 30 percent, and cuts the weight down by up to 24 percent, compared to the previous models. As you might have guessed, the new variant does not come with an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, which has been removed to presumably make the console slimmer.
