American internet-giant Google has acquired Bengaluru-based start-up company Halli Labs. The start-up which is just four months old focuses mostly on AI and machine learning.
Google, which is targeting its next billion users, has over the past one year announced several services to better serve the under-exploited Indian market.
Halli Labs announced the news late on Wednesday in a blogpost and said, "We will be joining Google's Next Billion Users team to help get more technology and information into more people’s hands around the world."
“We are excited that the Halli Labs team is joining Google. They’ll be joining our team that is focused on building products that are designed for the next billion users coming online, particularly in India,” a spokesperson from Google was quoted as saying.
Halli became the latest addition in a long list of AI companies which have been taken over by muti-national technology goliaths such as Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, Uber etc.
Some other significant takeovers from Google, which is laying its focus increasingly on Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning, include deep learning and neural networks start-up DNNresearch in 2013, UK firm DeepMind Technologies in 2014, data science host and machine learning platform Kaggle among others.
